In 2023, Bjørklund was appointed Honorary Professor at Semey Medical University, Kazakhstan, in recognition of sustained work in medical and health-science communication. Semey Medical University is a leading national institution with a university hospital and regional branches in Pavlodar and Ust-Kamenogorsk that support education and research across the region.
In 2023, he was also appointed Honorary Professor at Samarkand State Medical University, Uzbekistan. Samarkand State Medical University is among the oldest medical institutions in Central Asia and remains a key center for medical training and research in the historic Silk Road city of Samarkand.
In 2003, the Albert Lindsay von Julin Foundation (Helsinki) awarded Bjørklund a €10,000 grant for work advancing biological medicine in the Nordic region. The grant acknowledged efforts to improve scientific communication and awareness in this field.
In 2023, he received an invitation to serve as a visiting professor at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University in Riyadh, one of the world’s largest women’s universities.
