Geir Bjørklund, MD, is a Norwegian researcher, health science writer, and editor. His work focuses primarily on the interaction between nutritional and environmental factors, their influence on physiology, biochemistry, and disease development, as well as their clinical applications in prevention and treatment.
In 1995, he founded Tenner & Helse, the membership magazine of the Norwegian Dental Patient Association (Forbundet Tenner og Helse), serving as its editor-in-chief until 1999. In 2001, he launched the Nordic Journal of Biological Medicine (Nordisk Tidsskrift for Biologisk Medisin), which was published until 2003. Since 2013, he has served as president of the Council for Nutritional and Environmental Medicine (CONEM), an international nonprofit organization based in Norway.
Bjørklund has made significant contributions to the understanding of how nutrition and environmental exposures affect neurological disorders. He collaborates internationally with academic institutions and health organizations and has carried out professional assignments for agencies such as the Norwegian Board of Health Supervision, the Swiss National Science Foundation, and the Israel Science Foundation.
He is deputy editor of Metabolic Brain Disease and section editor for Current Medicinal Chemistry and Current Pharmaceutical Design. He also serves on the editorial board of Cellular and Molecular Life Sciences and is a member of the World Association of Medical Editors.
In 2003, the Albert Lindsay von Julin Foundation (Helsinki) awarded him a EUR 10,000 grant in recognition of his efforts to promote biological medicine in the Nordic region.
In 2023, Bjørklund was appointed Honorary Professor at Semey Medical University in Kazakhstan and at Samarkand State Medical University in Uzbekistan.
Through his publications, Bjørklund shares knowledge on nutritional and environmental medicine with both the scientific community and the broader public.
